“Na Aham Karta!”- The Power of Surrender

In the vast universe, I find myself in wonder of the immense beauty and complexity that surrounds me. As I contemplate the great power of the sun and its life-giving energy, the magnificence of our planet, the vastness of the oceans, and the glory of the mountains, I am reminded of a profound truth:

I am not the creator of any of this.

From the food produced by the synergy of earth and water to the moments that unfold before my eyes, everything is a part of a beautiful design that has been in existence for billions of years and will continue to be there for billions more in future. Even my own body, my senses, and my mind are not my creations but gifts from the universe, allowing me to experience its wonders.

This truth reminds me that I have no role in the creation of these wonders.

The moment in front of me is just one of countless moments in this ongoing universe. I cannot complain about any of these moments but must instead experience and learn from them, recognizing the profound opportunity they unfold.

This realization brings me to a place of deep humility and surrender.

“Na aham karta” — “I am not the doer.” This ancient Sanskrit phrase, quoted by the great Indian saint & Dvaitha Philosopher, Shri Madhwacharya, encapsulates the essence of this surrender. It reminds us that while we may take actions and make choices, we are ultimately a part of a larger, interconnected whole — “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” — the world is one family.

In our lives, we often strive for control, seeking to mould outcomes to fit our own desires. Yet, when we recognize that we are not the ultimate creators, we can begin to let go of this need for control. We can perform our duties and actions with focussed and dedication, but without attachment to the results — “Karmanyevadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana” — you have the right to perform your duty, but not to the fruits of the actions. This shift in perspective not only alleviates the burden of constant striving but also opens us to the joy of simply experiencing life as it is.

Imagine approaching each day with the understanding that you are a channel for the universe’s energy, that your role is to experience and contribute rather than to control and possess. This mindset develops a sense of peace and fulfillment, as we align ourselves with the natural flow of life. As individuals, we should be content with the role we have been given and contribute positively to this creation.

As seekers, by embracing the wisdom of “Na aham karta,” we can transform our approach to every aspect of life. As a seeker and coach, I am committed to learning and guiding those who wish to experience this sense of surrender. Together, we can cultivate a life of joy, peace, and deep connection to the universe.

In this journey of life, let us remember the wisdom of “Na aham karta.” Let us surrender to the profound realization that we are part of something much greater and supreme than ourselves, which is omnipresent and omnipotent. By doing so, we can find true happiness and contentment, not in what we achieve, but in the beauty of simply being and experiencing.
